emerson kate - 6 months!


My little Emerson is actually 8 months now!  So behind on blogging but I had this one typed up!



I cannot believe she is six months.  Crazy talk.  I know I say that every month, but man oh man it is surreal how quickly it goes by.  She is the best thing that has ever happened and I am LOVING this stage!  What a joy!  Matt and I survived our first trip out of the country without E.  Her Nonnie came up to watch her while Matt and I went to the Dominican for a work trip.  We facetimed which actually made it worse…I cried a couple of times…but all in all it was good for us to get away.  I still had to pump the entire trip which SUCKED!!  There isn’t a space to pump at the CLT airport so you have to use the family restroom…gaahhhrroosss.  I can top that one though…pumping in the Dominican airport…no AC pumping while in standing up in a stall sweating my face off.  Pumping blows.  You can’t sleep in if you are pumping since they wake you up…probably TMI but it is the truth.  You also can’t spend all day on the beach since you are tied to your pump.  I really don’t mind pumping during the week since it has become part of my life, but if I could do it over again I would probably not take a pump on vacation again.  Switch to formula.  I know that seems selfish but I don’t care.  I am, however, hardcore about trying to not not give E formula for some reason.  I know there is nothing wrong with it, I just feel good knowing that I am providing her the best nutrition and helps me feel connected in some strange way to her.  I really think I have some strange emotional attachment to my pump.  We are going to have to break up at some point....

Size:  Emerson is 15 lbs 7 oz.  She is getting huge!

Clothes/ Diapers:  She wears mostly 6 months with a few 9 month outfits.   Size 3 diapers.

Eating:  She eats 7 ounces at 6 am, 9 am, 12 pm, 3 pm, 6:15 – 6:45 pm.  We have also started food and she eats that around 5:30.  Food is so FUN!  E likes apples, carrots, sweet potatoes, bananas, and mangos.  She doesn’t like peas and avocados although I don’t think the avocado was pureed enough.  Mangos are her favorite so far followed by apples.  She has a sweet tooth like her Mama.  We are going to try to make her food.  It seems pretty easy and so much cheaper.  Plus I am in this clean eating phase (I just ate a snickers as I am typing this) so I have been trying to not eat crap and don’t want to give E crap.  If I can’t understand the ingredients then E isn’t eating it.  I mean have you seen baby canned meats?  Disgusting.  Even her Pediatrician said not to serve her that.









Sleeping:   Emerson sleeps like a champ.  I really can’t believe it.  She sleeps 12 hours and we put her down wide awake.  She will usually talk to herself for a little bit, sometimes not at all, and then out.

Likes:  Eating, us, Stella (super cute watching her get excited over Stella), Sophie the giraffe, jumper, baths, getting her diaper changed.

Dislikes:  She hates the vacuum which is odd because we vacuumed around her all the time when she was a newborn.  Her lip will quiver and she will frown and almost cry but holds it in.

Random:  Emerson has always been chatty but has REALLY picked it up a notch.  She sometimes will just holler – not cry – just holler for no reason.  Oh, and I am going to be a douche and brag a little, but one of the part time teachers at her daycare said that I was lucky because she has looks and personality.  She said that she is such a good baby and never cries. (I am thinking this lady hasn’t heard E holler yet…ha)

Me:  I haven’t put this on my last several posts because I lost the baby weight.  Hooray!  Then I went on vacation and gained some back.  Boo!  I still don’t have the body I had before her.  Losing the baby weight is one thing, but getting your old shape back in another.  What really bothered me was feeling weak.  You have ZERO core after pregnancy and feel squishy.  I remember trying to do a plank in a hot yoga class 6 weeks post-partum and couldn’t….literally couldn’t hold myself up.   It is very bizarre since your belly is so tight during pregnancy.  I worked out 5-6 times a week during my maternity when I was cleared (mostly for my sanity although when people assume I lost the baby weight breastfeeding I want to laugh and throw something) and then once I went back to work it was really hard to find the time.  She wasn’t sleeping well last fall so to get up for my morning runs was challenging, and I certainly didn’t want to run after work since that was my only time with her.  We snuggled so much after work.  Then it got cold and dark and the holidays came…I could go on and on….so I decided to start the DVD program Insanity which has been wonderful.  It is a 9 week program and I have 2 weeks left.  I still don’t have my old body back but I feel SO much better.  I am feeling strong again and am eating better now too.  I curse every morning when my alarm goes off at 4:50 but feel so great after it and have an obsession with Shaun T.   The other thing that has been challenging is figuring out how many calories to eat.  I don’t count them, but I am aware what I am putting into my body.  Since I am still nursing it has become a guessing game.  I also have to eat lots of carbs to keep my supply up so I try to eat mainly oatmeal (and candy...duh).  Sometimes when I eat my worst I actually lose weight and when I eat healthy I put weight on.  I have just stopped trying to figure that part out and just try be sensible MOST of the time.  It is girl scout cookie season after all.
