Loving Fall

Fall is my favorite time of year.  Love the smell & taste of anything pumpkin and all the fall colors.  Plus I love my morning runs a little more this time of year.  This is my husband's favorite time of year for different reasons: football and Octoberfest.

We attended our first CLT Octoberfest a few weekends ago and it was a blast.  If you haven't gone you need to GO.  German food is delciousssssss!

we have no idea who this guy is by the way....

I'm bacccckkkkk!!

Hello!  Howdy!  Did you miss me?  I certainly have missed blogging.  Life has been busy and I suck at keeping this thing current.  Balancing life is something I wish I was better at (which p.s. I am more than terrified when I have kids one day..no idea how Moms have a career, play mom & wife, AND maintain their figure/ health….floors me).  I have been working a lot lately which is why I haven’t blogged.  I received a promotion almost 2 months ago and I am so SO grateful….I am just not acclimated to the role yet so my days are long and exhausting.  I know that will pass…it almost has…and I am ready to get back to normal.

So, what have I been working on around the house?  Our kitchen tile backsplash is up (only partially grouted because we need to finish under cabinet lighting), new breakfast chairs, drapes and table which we refinished.
I will do a separate post for the breakfast room table because it really is a process, but SO worth it.

The kitchen backsplash was done by my SWEET husband.  He did it all.  I actually wasn’t around for the project because I was being an OCD perfectionist (aka monster) and had to remove myself from the kitchen.  Let’s just say we didn’t get along with this project.  I asked him to start over in an area, he said no, I said yes, we had a time out, etc.  Before you grout you can see all the imperfections which really aren’t imperfections so I expressed my concerns (lost my shit) for nothing.  Poor Matt.

I still need to find outlet covers which I have no idea where you buy a slight off white outlet cover?? No idea?  I will figure something out but explains why there aren't any in the photos.

I LOVE IT!  I can’t believe the transformation considering the amount we spent.  SO HAPPY!

craigslist find!

My husband...yes husband.... found this little beauty on craigslist.
It is a Hickory Chair James River sideboard.

Now I just need a mirror, lamps, drapes, and chairs and this room will be complete!
We were going to place this in our dining room (to the right) but I like the idea of making the a little bar on the top of it (pretty tray with decanters) and it makes sense to have it near lounge chairs (ha, the lounge chairs that don't exist yet).  PLUS I was sold on the idea of adding sconces (there isn't any overhead lighting) but now I can just put lamps on the sideboard and the outlet is controlled by a light switch so that works out.
I am a HUGE fan of craigslist.  You just have to know how to search correctly.  Always filter to read "furniture by owner" and be specific on brands like Hickory Chair, Baker, Henkel Harris, etc.  If you just type in "sideboard" you are going to see crap.  Most people sell quality casegoods on there because they are either moving or downsizing.

So excited to finally have a place to store my china! Woohoo!

all about stella!

Just love her!!!

My baby girl is almost 8 months old and I can't help myself doing an entire post on her!  :)

ikea makeover

We bought these Billy bookcases 3 years ago to help with our storage in the loft.  They worked but it BOTHERED the heck out of me how cheap they look.  I think it is the fact that the back portion folds up so you can see the creases.  I am sure most people don't even notice it...but I am weird....I notice small things.

So to make them appear better, I decided to line the back with grasscloth wallpaper.  I actually bought it from Lowes and it was super cheap....I think $40 for both with lots of extra.

All you have to do is remove the backs.

Then place over the grasscloth and trace with a pencil.
Cut around edges using a metal ruler and xacto knife.
Use spray adhesive and attach to the bookcase.  Matt came in handy for this to help with the bubbles.  I ran out so I used double sided tape on a portion of one because I didn't feel like running to the store.
Slide back into place and you've got yourself a snazzy looking bookcase!

abode updates

I wish I could say that we installed our new kitchen backsplash.....but I can't.  We still haven't ordered it and our kitchen STILL looks like this and has for months now.  I have no excuse.  Lazy.
(my ghetto kitchen below)
We have managed to start on a gallery wall that leads up our stairs. I am loving it so far. We purchased frames from antique stores, AC Moore, and I found one at the Habitat Restore. Most were professional framed pieces so we just ditched the existing art because the frames were really nice. I lucked out because some were only $4 - but if you saw what was in there you would understand why.
I have no clue what to put in them yet. I know I will get most, if not all, off of Etsy.
I scored a GREAT deal on runner which I am THRILLED about. I have been on the hunt for a looonnng ass time couldn't afford anything that I liked. I got this from Pottery Barn Outlet and it is a WS Home runner. It is a hand-knotted wool NEUTRAL rug for only $300.

We also picked up some shelves from West Elm for our Bedroom.

You can find them HERE and guess what?  They are on sale now.  Story of my life.

I am still here! Swear!

Hello!  You missed me didn't you?
I love how I talking to myself right now...

I have a lot of random personal things to catch up on...

April was a blast!  Our friends, Nick and Casey, took us to the Masters which was awesome.  I am not a golfer at all but this is one event that is so much fun to be at - plus that egg salad sandwich is unreal.

After that, Matt and I took Stella to Hilton Head for Easter and she really enjoyed herself.  I cannot put into words how much that little pup means to me.  She is growing up so fast!  She now knows how to sit, shake, and lay.  Her problem is if you want her to lay she does all three - she almost sits and shakes at the same time.  I can't take any credit for this though - Matt is a dog whisperer.
April I also attended a BFF's bridal shower.  I failed to take any photos and actually she is professional photographer soooo I am sure she took some.  I also attended baby shower recently and actually Amy, the mommy, gave birth days after the shower!  Her sister-in-law did an amazing job with the shower.  I loved all the food and invitation - she actually had us bring a book in lieu of a card with was a really neat idea.  (Amy is a book nerd jk jk)  Also failed to take photos.....

I did take a photo from Matt's work event at Quail!

My hometown bestie, Hillary, had a birthday party for her little girl, Molly James, who just turned one. Her party was precious! Hillary did such a great job with all the decor and food. I managed to remember to take photos with my iPhone.
I was able to meet baby Wyatt!
Love this family!

I also attended a wedding for one of my best friends in Nashville. It was a BLAST!!! I cannot describe how much fun I have with my girlfriends from high school. It is always just an easy good time. Even if I don't talk to some all the time, we simply just pick up where we left off.

We had her bachelorette party Thursday night....

A luncheon Friday morning at the most idyllic home I have every been too.
Nashville is just beautiful.
Everything was perfect - the food & company were amazing.
The hostess had a china shower when she was getting married and each guest brought a plate with their pattern as a gift.  I love this idea!!
The wedding was held outside at a wine bar/ restaurant.  It was small and intimate and totally reflected Lauren.  All the little details were definitely noticed!  Absolutely GORGEOUS!  I am so happy for these two!

We also worked on some house shizz recently which I will save for next week.

Happy Weekend!
